Aarhus Art Building Satellite

Aarhus Art Building – Center for Contemporary Art is an exhibition space for experimental contemporary art. The Art Centre exhibits newly produced exhibitions by both Danish and international artists, and sets the agenda in contemporary art by inviting artists with an experimental and critical edge in their production.

Sigrid’s Space is Aarhus Art Buildings new satellite – a mini art center in the heart of Aarhus' multi ethnic residential district Gellerup. Sigrid’s Space takes the shape of  a living organism in the heart of society and aims to form a face-to-face dialogue with the local.

An art satellite is a concept where the creation of art is moving into new surroundings. The purpose of the satellite is to support artistic mobility and reach new segments of the population. The satellite Sigrid's Space takes the form of a residency. The foreign artists are invited to move into the city and through their experiences in the local area Gellerup challenge and develop contemporary art and our experience of it.

The idea is to make a social, alive and dynamic art space - a space where you can follow contemporary art in its making.

Sigrids's Space is open to all and admission is free. It will present exhibitions and there will be in addition to workshops, events, meetings and other activities.

Aarhus Art Building is one of the biggest spaces for contemporary art in Denmark and is located in the heart of Aarhus. Each year it presents between 10 and 15 exhibitions.

The everyday life of Sigrids Space
The first artist who moved into the area of Gellerup was Sandra Johnston. After her came the american artist, Mario Ybarra Jr. Right now a new artist has arrived: Daniel van der Noon who has started working in Sigrid's Space, and he would like to meet you, your family and friends.

In the middle of it all
Sigrid’s Space is placed in Foreningernes Hus in the former Nordgaardsskolen in the middle of Gellerup - on Sigridsvej 46. Entrance via Jettesvej.

The space is the artists' open and process-based studio that will function as a social exhibition space for art. The room is open to all who are curious about art, people who want to meet the artist and perhaps experience being part of an artwork.
